Native of New Brunswick, Bernice moved to Quebec in 1977. She had previously studied at the University of Moncton in New Brunswick from 1973 to 1977. She spent a few years working and then decided to raise and spend time with her family.

It was at a later time when she decided to explore a world she had always been fascinated by, the art world of painting. Up to now, her approach has been self-taught, thinking that this is the best way to learn to know herself better, in particular to learn what she prefers. Hence, having explored previously water and oil painting, she discovered that acrylic is her favourite medium.

Her passion is to create beauty on canvas being inspired by beauty in nature from her own observations or by photography. Her objective is not to reproduce a photo but to use it as an inspiration and create a new vision of reality. She realized that this approach has given her much latitude and that the possibilities are endless. Finally, she feels that she has succeeded when her painting gives a feeling of contemplation to the viewer. People may lose themselves in another reality for a few moments and come out feeling refreshed from the daily lives. Of course, this is a long term project, a project for a lifetime
